None of Ernest Hemingway's fictional heroes would retreat from adversity by killing themselves. But that's fiction. Mr. Hemingway lived in the real world where madness can drive the strongest man to self destruction. While for some writing is therapy, no matter how good you are, you can't write yourself out of insanity. That's why Hemingway put down his pen and picked up his gun.
