Retail Thieves Running Wild in the Bay Area

Six Target stores in San Francisco that once stayed open until ten at night now close their doors four hours early due to a recent wave of shoplifting. Over the past several months, 17 Walgreens stores in the Bay Area have closed after being looted by roving gangs, a crime local authorities call "organized retail theft." Because the profit margin in retailing is so small, it doesn't take much shoplifting and looting to kill a business. Since the defund the police movement, the local elections of soft-on-crime prosecutors, city council members, and mayors, violent and nonviolent crime has risen dramatically in the nation's largest cities. The trend has seriously reduced the quality of life in these communities.

The idea that incarceration is bad because it turns decent people into criminals and is a "root cause" of crime is one of the many absurd theories dreamed up by academic criminologists and other so-called criminal justice experts with no direct experience in crime prevention or law enforcement. Treating criminal suspects fairly pursuant to criminal procedural law is one thing; being nice to them through mindless leniency is another. It's amazing that so many of our leaders either don't understand this obvious reality or simply prefer criminals over the people they victimize. Just how bad will it have to get before voters get the message and vote these sob sisters and crime lovers out of office?
