One of the most difficult things is the first paragraph. I have spent months on a first paragraph, and once I get it, the rest comes out very easily.

It may just be an urban legend, but I did read someplace that Margaret Mitchell wrote the last chapter of "Gone with the Wind" first, before anything else.
